Welcome to the site of "EuroEcoIntellect" project!

This project was realized by Friendly Support Foundation, Ruse from 01.12.2006 to 30.06.2006 with the methodical help and financial support of the Bulgarian Environmental Partnership Foundation, Sofia by the Local Ecoinitiatives Programme, with the partnership of 14 organizations and institutions.

Previous Experience

Since 2004 Friendly Support Foundation develops ecological education regarding the popularization of the unique nature park "Rusenski lom" and the other nature landmarks among the youths and pupils from schools in Ruse region, with priority of children and youths in unequilateral social or health status, living in institutions.

The problems connected with the environment preservation and nature protecting are among the basic goals of the organization and its partners.  After the successful realization of the "Young Friends of Nature" (Bulgarian only) project in 2005/2006, the children participating in it were very satisfied from their achievements and interesting initiatives. They showed us a strong motivation to continue the events for nature protecting and maintaining the "Rusenski lom" nature park and the other nature landmarks in the region.

The communication with nature made us more responsible, more tolerant, more communicative and at the same time – irreconcilable with cases, connected with destruction of the already built, pollution of the environment and the annihilation of valuable plant species, the illegal tree-cutting, etc. Such cases we found in the protected area “Topchiisko dere” (The Gully of Topchii) near the nature landmark “Yuch Peshtera” (The Triple Cave). This made us direct our steps and eco events to this locality, which is part of the route “From Perperikon to Pobit Kamak”. We found neglected facilities with important meaning for the life in this region: “Malkata cheshma” (The Little Faucet) and the bridge to the ethnographic museum, so we decided that their restoration could give an opportunity for hundreds of tourists to get introduced with the cultural and the historical inheritance, as well as the nature landmarks of this beautiful and unknown nook in Bulgaria.
While realizing the project, we found that the problems, connected with the environment protection, the historical and cultural inheritance and the stable development of the localities are a live question in the village regions. Practically, the people living there do not have the eco culture needed. Also, the apiarists do not have professional information about the biological bee-farming, and it is a very perspective branch for Bulgaria, known as one of the countries in Europe, producing the most qualitative honey. Many of them were willing to stop their work as apiarists, which could lead to disadvantageous consequences for the plants’ propagation. By check-ups made by us was proved that the information and the training of biological apiarists in huge bee-farming regions like the Danube region and the Ludogorie region is not a subject of government politics at all. There is no strategy planned for involving the Bulgarian apiarists in biological bee-farming. The only professional training in Bulgaria is given in Sofia, and the course costs as much as two minimal Bulgarian wages.
The bee-farmers from the village regions do not have the opportunity to participate in such trainings because the apiculture itself does not allow being absent from the apiary for a long time. Moreover, these people are growing plant cultures and breeding animals, which need an everyday care.
Another part of these people is presented by pensioners who cannot afford the expenses required – for participation in courses as well as for apiarist magazines subscription.

Everything we said above motivated us to create this project, including a plenty of events, regarding the building and the upgrade of the local people eco culture (11 villages situated in the localities of “Rusenski lom” Nature Park and “Topchiisko dere” protected area). This was made by getting introduced to the biodiversity in the region, saving the forest and the fields from fires, eco events for cleansing the environment near the rivers, restoration of the faucet and improvement of the bridge to the ethnographic museum in the village of Topchii, disposal of the garbage thrown around the rivers, training programs for biological apiculture, as well as preventing future pollution of the cleaned areas.

About 600 people participated in the project.
